Formed in 2024, Everyone Says Hi boasts an impressive pedigree of experienced British indie musicians; alongside former Kaiser Chiefs drummer and chief songwriter Nick Hodgson, the lineup features Pete Denton (The Kooks), Ben Gordon (The Dead 60s), Glenn Moule (Howling Bells), and guitarist Oli Swan.

‘Funny Cos It’s True’ features 11 tracks of hook-heavy indie-pop: recorded entirely at frontman and songwriter Nick Hodgson’s home studio, the album marks a more collaborative era for the band following their self-titled debut in 2024.

The songwriting process began in late 2024 on the heels of their initial tour. Over sporadic recording sessions running from May to September 2025, the band members - including guitarist Dawson on visits from Leeds - crafted an expanded sonic template that blends a hazy, 1970s-infused retro edge with modern alternative rock.

Lyrically, the album tackles deep emotional ground. Songs cover themes ranging from parenthood and digital isolation to grief following the loss of Hodgson's father to Alzheimer's.

"It was a big decision to record the whole album in my own studio at home," Nick said. "I want to do the opposite of modern techniques, go more old school, more performance-based. The album is inspired by digital loneliness, social media pressure, modern life pressure, questions on what really matters and all that miserable stuff.

“I try to pull it back from the brink with humour, hence the title."

New single ‘Don’t Underestimate Yourself’ is a driving, string-soaked anthem dedicated to Hodgson's young daughter.

Hodgson explained: "This track is a note to my daughter as she grows up to remind her that she doesn’t have to think she has to change. She can remain her confident and bold self."

Everyone Says Hi will perform live and sign copies of their new album at Crash Records on The Headrow on September 26. ‘Funny Cos It’s True’ releases on September 25 through all leading music retailers.
