The spirit of Madchester is set to descend on Leeds this weekend as the legendary Happy Mondays bring their 35th Anniversary tour to the city.
While the announcement of Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour may have been the spark that reignited the nation’s obsession with 90s guitar culture, the ‘Britpop Renaissance’ has been gathering steam for years.
This weekend (March 14), the Happy Mondays prove that the appetite for the baggy, genre-blurring sounds of the North is stronger than ever.
As they celebrate the 35th anniversary of their seminal album Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches, Shaun Ryder, Bez, and the gang are proving that the crossover between indie-rock and acid house wasn't just a moment in time, but a blueprint for British music that still fills venues in 2026.
It’s a celebration of a sound that defined a generation and continues to influence every guitar band that’s picked up a maraca since.
Joining them are fellow ‘tribal’ leaders, The Farm and Northside - and this isn't the first time the three bands have shared a stage in our city.
They all famously performed at the legendary Elland Road concert in 1991, so on Saturday night at the O2 Academy Leeds, the gig is effectively a reunion of the pioneers who helped turn the North of England into the centre of the musical universe.
What times are the doors opening for Happy Mondays in Leeds?

The O2 Academy Leeds has confirmed the following schedule for Saturday night:
- Doors Open: 6pm
- Curfew: 11:00pm
With it being an early show, the first support act should be starting at around 6:30pm to 6:45pm, so head on down early to avoid missing out of any of the action.
What is the bag policy for the O2 Academy Leeds?
The O2 Academy Leeds operates a strict "small bags only" policy. Large bags and rucksacks are not permitted inside the auditorium, and fans are encouraged to travel as light as possible to avoid delays at the security search points.
If you do need to bring a bag, it must be no larger than A4 size (approximately 30cm x 21cm x 15cm). This applies to all handbags and small cross-body bags.
Please be aware that there are no cloakroom facilities available for large luggage or rucksacks. If you are travelling from out of town with larger items, you will need to use a city-centre storage hub or locker, such as those provided by Stasher, before arriving at the venue, as security will not be able to store these items for you.
What should I bring with me?
To ensure your entry to the O2 Academy is as smooth as possible, please have your digital tickets ready on your mobile device.
Most tickets for the Happy Mondays tour are mobile-only, meaning you will need to show the live ticket within the O2 Academy or Ticketmaster app rather than a screenshot or printout.
It is highly recommended that you ensure your phone is fully charged before heading to the venue to avoid any issues at the scanning points.
If you are planning on visiting the bars inside, keep in mind that the venue operates a strict Challenge 25 policy; this means that if you are lucky enough to look under the age of 25, you will be asked to provide a valid form of photo identification - such as an original copy of your UK driving licence or a passport - before being served alcohol.
Finally, the O2 Academy Leeds is primarily a cashless venue. To help keep queue times down and ensure everyone gets served quickly, the bars and merchandise stands are set up for contactless and card payments.
Make sure you have your card or mobile payment app ready, so you don't miss a second of the show.
What can I not bring with me?
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone at the O2 Academy, several items are strictly prohibited from the venue.
Security will be conducting searches at the entrance, and any outside food or drink - including snacks, bottles, and cans - will be confiscated upon arrival.
Similarly, fans are asked to leave professional cameras at home; any recording gear or cameras featuring detachable lenses are not permitted inside.
The venue maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any items that could compromise safety. This includes drugs (including ‘legal’ highs), laser pointers and any objects that could be considered or used as a weapon.
If you are found with these items, you may be refused entry or asked to leave the premises.
Finally, while the Leeds weather can be unpredictable, please think twice about your choice of rain cover. Large "golf" style umbrellas are not allowed inside the venue.
If it is still drizzling when you head out, your best bet is to wear a raincoat or stick to a small, foldable umbrella that can be easily tucked away, as larger umbrellas will not be permitted past the security check.
