Weekend gig guide: The Human League, The Cribs, No-Wave royalty and more taking place in the city
Leeds' live music scene shifts gears this weekend with huge open-air headliners at Millennium Square and an unmissable, rare performance from a No-Wave pioneer
If it seems like a slightly calmer weekend of shows ahead, perhaps that is because you spent last weekend at the triumphant debut of Roundhay Festival, where tens of thousands gathered for Pitbull, Lewis Capaldi, and All Things Orchestral.
That, or Joan Jett is still ringing in your eardrums.
But it is quality over quantity, as they say. While the gig guide might not look quite as packed as previous weeks, don't sleep on the fact that some massive shows are taking place across the city over the next three days.
Whether you are looking for huge open-air gatherings in Millennium Square or wanting to catch a No-Wave icon paying tribute to an equally influential electronic blueprint, there are still some tough choices to make this weekend—especially as the countdown to Leeds Festival 2026 officially begins.
This weekend’s concert highlights in Leeds

Sounds of the City: The Human League (Millennium Square - Friday)
The massive Sounds of the City summer concert series returns to Millennium Square this Friday night, bringing a masterclass in definitive British synth-pop with it. Sheffield legends The Human League are set to headline the open-air stage, bringing their pristine catalogue of electronic anthems - from ‘Don't You Want Me’ to ‘Mirror Man’ - to the heart of Leeds.
Making the evening an even more essential ticket is a stellar supporting line-up that includes fellow 80s heavyweights ABC. Expect a glorious, brass-tinted nostalgia trip under the open skies to kick your weekend off in style.
The Cribs (Millennium Square - Saturday)
The open-air party continues straight into Saturday as West Yorkshire indie royalty reclaim their patch. Wakefield's finest, The Cribs, are taking over Millennium Square for what promises to be a raucous, high-energy celebration of alternative guitar anthems.
The Jarman brothers possess one of the most fiercely loyal fanbases in the country, and their outdoor Leeds shows are historically legendary affairs.
Joining them to warm up the crowd are indie-pop standouts Lottery Winners and rising talent Ellur, making this the definitive big-ticket guitar event of the summer.
Lydia Lunch & Marc Hurtado perform the music of Suicide (Hyde Park Book Club - Friday)
For those seeking something distinctly darker, visceral, and uncompromisingly historic, the place to be on Friday night is Hyde Park Book Club. The iconic musician, writer, and performance artist Lydia Lunch is returning to Leeds for a rare, must-see underground event.
First bursting onto the New York scene in 1977 as a founding member of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Lunch was a central instigator of the legendary No Wave movement. Across a fearless career spanning nearly 50 years, she has collaborated with everyone from Sonic Youth and Nick Cave to Rowland S. Howard and Brian Eno.
For this special performance, she is teaming up with French experimental artist Marc Hurtado to perform the music of the pioneering electronic proto-punk duo Suicide.
It is a rare opportunity to see an avant-garde titan honouring the sonic blueprint of Alan Vega and Martin Rev in a beautifully intimate space.
