Weekend gig guide: Blue, The Dickies, Quiet Steps Festival and your musical guide for the next three days

Chart-topping pop icons Blue, US punk rock legends The Dickies, and the highly anticipated Quiet Steps Festival lead a packed line-up of live music heading to the city over the next three days

If it seems like a slightly calmer weekend of shows ahead, perhaps that is because you spent last weekend enjoying the sun or recovering from the massive open-air performances in Millennium Square.

But it is quality over quantity, as they say. While the gig guide might look a little different as mid-July rolls on, don't sleep on the fact that some massive shows are taking place across the city over the next three days.

Whether you are looking to lose yourself in a massive math-rock and emo-punk festival, catch legendary punk pioneers from across the Atlantic, or head deep underground for a showcase of heavy local talent, there are still some tough choices to make this weekend.

Quiet Steps Festival: Braid & Faraquet (PROJECT HOUSE - Saturday)

A major milestone event for fans of midwestern emo and post-hardcore, Quiet Steps Festival takes over city centre venue PROJECT HOUSE this Saturday, starting at noon.

Heading the bill are Chicago pioneers Braid and Washington DC math-rock veterans Faraquet, performing highly anticipated sets.

Joining them for this essential all-dayer is a stellar supporting line-up that includes seminal emo outfit Hey Mercedes, Pennines, Tangled Hair, Pancho (UK), and What? Nah!.

This is a dream line-up for alternative music fans, transforming the venue into a haven for intricate guitar riffs and nostalgic choruses.

The Dickies (Brudenell Social Club - Saturday)

The legendary Los Angeles punk rock band The Dickies bring their frantic, high-octane live show to the Brudenell Social Club this Saturday night.

Formed in 1977, the group were among the first punk bands from the United States to sign to a major record label.

Renowned for their blistering speeds, humorous lyrics, and famously wild stage antics, their return to the city promises to be a celebratory tour de force of classic punk

Blue (The Wardrobe - Saturday)

For those seeking a pure hit of pop nostalgia, legendary British boyband Blue are taking over city centre venue The Wardrobe this Saturday night.

Formed in London, the beloved four-piece dominated the charts throughout the early noughties, and having sold more than 15 million records worldwide and secured three number one albums, the group are set to play an intimate show at the local venue in support of their new album, Reflections.

The show represents a rare opportunity for fans to see one of the UK's most successful pop acts in a beautifully personal space.
