Leeds weekend gig guide: Millennium Square takeover, Superchunk and more in the city heat
With next week's historic Roundhay Festival on the horizon, Leeds turns up the volume this weekend with huge open-air dance takeovers at Millennium Square and Project House, alongside independent gems across the city
While the eyes of the music world are firmly locked on next week’s massive debut of the Roundhay Festival - set to bring the likes of Pitbull, Lewis Capaldi, and the spectacular All Things Orchestral (featuring an exclusive live set from DJ Yoda, who we spoke to ahead of next week’s finale) to the city - Leeds isn't exactly standing still in the meantime.
Before the park gates even swing open, music fans have a sprawling, high-octane weekend of live music to contend with right across the city centre and beyond...
… and you'll want to pack the sun cream, because the summer heat matches the energy on stage.
This weekend sees the launch of the nationwide Everywhere At Once festival. Spearheaded by the Music Venue Trust and The National Lottery, this massive initiative is taking over grassroots venues right across the country to champion independent music spaces during Glastonbury's fallow year.
In Leeds, that means legendary independent spots like the Brudenell Social Club and Hyde Park Book Club are hosting phenomenal line-ups that keep your ticket money squarely in the local ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the iconic Millennium Square Summer Series officially kicks off its outdoor takeover.
The open-air venue is launching with a massive double-header of orchestral reinventions, starting with a hometown Ibiza curation from electronic pioneers Utah Saints, before diving headfirst into the ultimate 80s pop nostalgia trip.
If you're looking to catch some incredible live music in the sunshine this weekend, here are our definitive big-hitting highlights you cannot afford to miss
This weekend’s musical highlights in Leeds

Utah Saints presents: Club Classical Ibiza (Friday - Millennium Square)
Leeds’ own electronic music pioneers Jez Willis and Tim Garbutt have curated a spectacular, open-air summer dance party right in the heart of the city. The evening launches with high-energy live sets from UK rave royalty Shades Of Rhythm and resident DJ Andi Durrant, before the 50-piece Orchestra of Opera North joins the stage.
Expect massive, symphonic reinventions of defining 90s dancefloor anthems, complete with powerhouse live vocals from Rozalla (’Everybody's Free’) and Janice Robinson executing a breath-taking performance of the Livin' Joy classic ‘Dreamer.’
Superchunk (Saturday and Sunday - Brudenell Social Club)
Chapel Hill’s absolute DIY indie-punk icons are playing a coveted double-header at the Brudenell as part of the nationwide Everywhere At Once network.
For those wanting a more intimate, sweat-soaked independent gig experience away from the massive city squares, Mac McCaughan and his crew are set to deliver a relentless, distortion-heavy clinic in power-pop hookiness.
Friday also sees incredible Everywhere At Once warmups at the venue from One Leg One Eye, while Sunday’s Superchunk closure features stellar local support from Middleman.
80s Classical 2026 (Saturday - Millennium Square)
This open-air celebration is the absolute gold standard for pure pop nostalgia under the summer sky.
A premier selection of original 1980s chart royalty - including Bananarama, Nik Kershaw, Nick Heyward, and Johnny Hates Jazz - will step up to perform their era-defining career hits (Venus, Wouldn't It Be Good, Shattered Dreams) backed entirely by the soaring cinematic power of the Orchestra of Opera North.
Love the 90s Festival (Saturday - PROJECT HOUSE)
If Millennium Square’s orchestral crossover isn't pure enough for your inner raver, this outdoor day party at Project House is the real deal. They are transforming the venue into a full-blown retro paradise headlined by none other than DJ Sammy (Heaven).
The stacked nostalgia line-up features absolute royalty of the electronic and Eurodance era, including Ultrabeat, Artful Dodger, Ian Van Dahl, Phats & Small, and Baby D delivering Let Me Be Your Fantasy under the summer sun.
