State-of-the-art mobile planetarium landing in Leeds Millennium Square this September

A state-of-the-art mobile planetarium is popping up on Millennium Square next month, bringing immersive 360-degree space projections, family film screenings, and astronomical experiences to the city

Visitors to Millennium Square will be able to explore the far reaches of the universe this autumn when a state-of-the-art mobile planetarium lands in the heart of Leeds.

Arriving in the city next month, Planetarium Go UK will take over the square from September 4 through to September 26, offering immersive astronomy and science-based experiences using high-resolution 360-degree digital projections housed entirely within a giant portable dome structure.

Designed to spark curiosity and make space exploration accessible to all ages, the attraction will screen a curated programme of educational films throughout its three-week residency.

Featured titles include 3-2-1 Lift Off (recommended for ages six and up), From Earth to Universe (ages 10+), Beyond the Sun (ages 5+), and Voyager: The Never-Ending Story (ages 5+).

Speaking on the launch, José Jiménez, CEO of Planetarium Go UK, said: “Our objective is clear: to bring science to places where it has not reached before: “We want children, young people and families to enjoy an immersive experience that sparks scientific curiosity and brings the universe closer to everyday life, regardless of where they live.”

The attraction forms the grand finale to Millennium Square’s packed 2026 summer events calendar, following another hugely successful Summer Series of live concerts and outdoor performances.

Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for economy, welcomed the arrival, saying: “Millennium Square continues to host an exciting and diverse programme of events and activities at the heart of the city centre each and every year and this summer has been no exception.

“Giving families the opportunity to explore the fascinating wonders of space and astronomy will be an incredible experience and will hopefully help to inspire the next generation of young scientists in Leeds.”
