18 photos as music lovers queue ‘13 hours’ for Record Store Day in Leeds

Some music lovers went to extreme lengths to make sure they got the pick of Record Store Day in Leeds

Music fans camped out overnight in Leeds to get their hands on special releases from their favourite artists on Record Store Day.

The golden rule for the popular event, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s resident expert Benjamin Jackson, is first-come, first-serve. It meant that enthusiastic record collectors went to dramatic lengths to make sure they got their pick of this year’s offerings.

Speaking to the YEP after waiting all night at Crash Record, Niamh Kirby and Caitlin Hill, both from Leeds, couldn’t contain their excitement.

The duo had started queueing at around 6.30pm on Friday (April 17) to make sure they would be in with a shot of getting the records they wanted.

Niamh said: “We’ve been here since half six last night, in the cold, the dark, and the very slight rain.

“But we got everything we wanted. I got, I think, seven vinyls. It was worth it.”

Both managed to get their hands on the releases they were most excited for - Fall Out Boy for Niamh and Paramore for Caitlin.

Ian De-Whytell of Crash Records said: “There is quite a queue behind us, it goes all the way down the road and round the corner.

“It’s a fantastic day for us, I think it’s about the 20th we’ve done now, it gets bigger and better every year. There’s something for everyone.”
