From the sprawling Victorian grandeur of its heritage parks to the rugged, off-road trails of its ancient woodlands, our city offers a ‘green lung’ for every breed and energy level.
But as every dog walker knows, the only thing better than a long stroll in the fresh Yorkshire air is the promise of a warm welcome - and perhaps a bowl of water and a treat - at the finish line.
We’ve rounded up 13 of the most scenic and diverse walking spots across the city, ranging from inner-city havens to rural escapes, and, to make your next outing even easier, we’ve also scouted out a nearby dog-friendly pit stop for each location, so you and your pooch don't have to feel parched after walkies.

7. Eccup Reservoir
This five-mile circular route offers a sense of rural escape with big sky views and Red Kites overhead. The New Inn at Eccup has recently returned under the same management as the Myrtle Tavern, bringing that same dog-loving ethos to the reservoir’s doorstep. | YEP

8. St Aidan’s Nature Reserve
This reclaimed wetland offers panoramic views, though dogs must stay on leads to protect the birds. After taking in the sights, the Travellers Rest is a nearby Greene King pub that treats four-legged guests like royalty, complete with their own '0% ABV' water station. | Michiko Smith / SWNS

9. Leeds Dock & Central Dog Park
Proof that city living is great for pups, Leeds Dock features a dedicated gated dog park with tunnels. Afterward, you can head to The Canary Bar, a modern dockside spot that is explicitly dog-friendly and offers great waterside views. | Bruce Rollinson

10. Park Square
A rare Georgian oasis in the Financial Quarter, perfect for short city-centre strolls. A ten-minute walk leads you to The Midnight Bell in Holbeck, a Leeds Brewery pub with a quiet courtyard and plenty of treats for visiting pups. | YEP

11. The Leeds-Liverpool Canal
The towpath starting at Granary Wharf is a flat, car-free route that stretches for miles. The Water Lane Boathouse is a staple city-centre stop-off, featuring an expansive garden where social dogs can watch the boats go by. | Tony Johnson

12. Lotherton Hall
The estate offers a brilliant Boundary Trail for off-lead woodland exploring. A short drive away is The Crooked Billet in Saxton, which is highly recommended by walkers for its friendly staff who make sure pets are well looked after while you tackle one of their famous giant Yorkshire puddings. | Bruce Rollinson
