A 12-pack of Galaxium solar eclipse glasses has fallen to £7.95 ahead of the major partial eclipse visible across the UK on August 12, 2026.

A pack of solar eclipse glasses has dropped below £8 ahead of one of the biggest astronomical events visible from the UK in decades.

The 12-pack of Galaxium Solar Eclipse Glasses is currently £7.95 at Amazon, down from £13.95 in a limited-time deal. The 43% reduction brings the cost to approximately 66p per pair.

They are being promoted ahead of the partial solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12, when the Moon is expected to cover around 90% of the Sun as seen from the UK and Ireland. The event will be the closest the British Isles have come to a total eclipse since 1999, according to the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

From London, the eclipse is expected to begin at approximately 6.17pm and reach its maximum at around 7.12pm. Exact timings and the amount of the Sun covered will vary around the country, with the South West expected to receive some of the deepest coverage.

The Galaxium eclipse glasses are advertised as complying with the ISO 12312-2 international standard for direct solar viewing. Their lenses are claimed to block harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation alongside 99.999% of intense visible light.

That protection is essential because ordinary sunglasses, regardless of how dark they appear, are not safe for looking directly at the Sun. NASA says suitable solar viewers should comply with ISO 12312-2 and be inspected for scratches, tears or other damage before every use.

Amazon customers have given the solar viewing glasses an average score of 4.3 out of five stars from more than 4,600 ratings. More than 100 packs were reportedly bought during the past month.

Each pair is individually wrapped, making the 12-pack convenient for families, friends, school groups or neighbours planning to watch together. The lightweight cardboard frames are designed to fit adults and children, although youngsters should always be supervised while viewing the eclipse.

Other pack sizes are available through the same listing. Six pairs cost £7.49, while the 25-pack is £16.95. A pack of 50 costs £37.95 and the largest 100-pair option is listed at £79.99.

At the current prices, the 12-pack for £7.95 offers the lowest advertised cost per pair. Amazon is also showing additional multibuy savings on qualifying items, ranging from 5% when buying two to 12% when buying five, although eligibility should be checked at checkout.

Anyone ordering the Galaxium eclipse glasses from Amazon should check the manufacturer information, certification and instructions supplied before use. Damaged, scratched or loose filters should be discarded, while prices and availability may change as August 12 approaches.
