Leeds United transfer latest as summer signing wants exit and defender green lights Whites move
The latest transfer talk from Elland Road as Leeds United look to add to their squad during the January transfer window.
Sebastiaan Bornauw is reportedly determined to leave Leeds United during the January transfer window and prove he is ‘more than a stop gap’ after struggling to make an impact during the early months of his time at Elland Road.
The four-times capped Belgium international joined the Whites from Wolfsburg during the summer as part of a rebuild of Daniel Farke’s defence ahead of the return to the Premier League. There were high hopes Bornauw could provide a high quality addition to the Whites ranks after impressing throughout a six-year stay in the Bundesliga and the defender expressed his desire to fit into Farke’s style of play after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.
Speaking after completing his move to Elland Road, Bornauw said: “Yeah, I think for me it's always been a dream to play in the Premier League. That's first of all and second of all, to play in such a big traditional club as Leeds United is also a massive accomplishment, so I'm really happy to be here. I like to be aggressive, even to play a high line. So, aggressive forward defending. I like to go more man-v-man style of play and then I try on set pieces to get some goals from time to time.
“I would say quite a lot because I watched I think the past five months since I knew of the interest. I tried to watch nearly every game so I would say the second half of the season I nearly watched everything. So I saw the games - I was a bit stressed as well as probably all the fans. So yeah I saw their football. I would say aggressive defending. Offensive play - dominating football and nice to watch. That's what I remember about it.”
Despite his initial determination to succeed at Elland Road, Bornauw has struggled to force his way into Farke’s starting eleven on a regular basis and has made just six appearances in all competitions. Just three of those appearances have come as a starter and although the defender earned praise from the Whites boss for his performance in the recent goalless draw at Liverpool, it now seems he is keen to secure a move away from Leeds during the remainder of the January transfer window.
German outlet Bild have claimed several Bundesliga clubs are keen to secure a deal for Bornauw over the coming weeks after the defender admitted he ‘wants to leave’ Leeds and his agents has been offering him to possible suitors. Koln are named as one possible destination as they see their former defender as one solution to their ‘immense’ defensive issues - but the report also claims the Bundesliga outfit can only afford a loan deal at his point in time.
Defender gives green light to Leeds move

Leeds United are reportedly keen to add a new defender to their ranks during the January transfer window - and Hertha Berlin centre-back Danilho Doekhi is believed to be their prime target.
The former Dutch Under-21 international is out of contract at the end of the season and could be available on a cut-price deal over the coming weeks. Leeds are said to be prepared to show patience in their attempts to force a deal for a player that has scored six times in 18 appearances this season and is viewed as another useful tool to use in the Whites’ impressive return from set-pieces. TeamTalk have now claimed the move has ‘gained significant momentum’ and states Doekhi has stressed he is ‘very keen’ on making a move to Elland Road.
