Five places Olivia Rodrigo should visit in Leeds, as locals plan day out for pop star

After global pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo named Leeds as a city she wants to visit, we asked our readers where they would take the star on a tour of the city

Global pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo shocked fans earlier this month by naming Leeds as a city she "wants to visit" in a surprise admission online.

The star made the revelation during a promotional tour, sparking a wave of excitement across West Yorkshire as residents began mapping out the ultimate local itinerary.

We asked Yorkshire Evening Post readers on Facebook where they would take the singer if she ever decided to make the trip to our corner of the county.

While many responses suggested she head straight back to the train station or airport, several readers offered genuine local recommendations.

From hidden transport links to legendary student pub crawls, here are five places Leeds residents think the pop icon should see when she comes to Leeds - rather than if (here’s hoping!)

Leeds Water Taxis and The Royal Armouries

Reader Paul Cockcroft suggested a scenic start to the day by taking "the little yellow water taxis" that travel along the canal from the railway station to the docks. He recommended pairing the boat ride with a trip to see the historic collections at The Royal Armouries.

Visitors can catch the famous vessels from Granary Wharf for a 15-minute cruise down to Leeds Dock, with the popular transport service having recently returned to the water under a brand new operator.

Tingley Miniature Railway

In a secondary recommendation, reader Paul Cockcroft highlighted a hidden heritage gem located just outside the city centre in Tingley. Built during the 1930s, he described the historic miniature track as the "best kept secret tourist destination in Yorkshire."

Tucked away in the local area, the narrow-gauge railway is completely maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers and regularly opens its gates for public running days throughout the summer months.

Trinity Kitchen

For a midday meal, reader Cheryl Ferris-Stewart recommended heading straight to the heart of the city centre to try the rotating street food stalls and independent vendors inside Trinity Kitchen on Boar Lane.

Visitors to the complex could also look out for some of the shopping centre's newest arrivals, including the upsized LEGO store, Lane7 or the brand new Footasylum flagship store that opened its doors this month.

Morley CIC Live

For some local entertainment, a comment from the team at Morley CIC Live invited the pop star to pop into their community hub.

The venue is known for hosting local events and live activities just outside the city centre - so maybe a trip to Morley in the afternoon could be in order? Who knows, maybe she could give an impromptu performance and inspire those who regularly head along to their grassroots music evenings?

The Otley Run

No student or visitor experience in the city is complete without tackling Leeds' most famous pub crawl.

Reader Helen Mclean suggested taking the pop star along the multi-stop route, which stretches down Headingley Lane and Otley Road.

Traditionally tackled in elaborate fancy dress, the historic crawl sees participants visit more than 15 different venues along the suburban route before finishing on the edge of the city centre.
