Leeds United starting-XI vs Liverpool as big Whites injury boost confirmed

Leeds United’s line-up to face Liverpool has been confirmed with Tarik Muharemovic starting while last season’s top-scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns from injury to make the bench.

The Whites round off their pre-season tour of the USA at Soldier Field in Chicago this evening, with kick-off at 9pm UK time. Results so far across the Atlantic have been mixed, with last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Wrexham followed by a 1-0 win against Sunderland on Thursday night.

Both summer signings Harry Wilson and Muharemovic have made debuts, with the former coming off the bench against Wrexham while the latter started against Sunderland. Bosnian defender Muharemovic was particularly impressive in that victory and gets the nod to start again tonight.

He remains part of what looks like a back three again, joining Joe Rodon and what is likely to be James Justin as Sebastiaan Bornauw drops to the bench. Gabriel Gudmundsson has also retained his place at left-wing back while Jayden Bogle is on the right.

Ethan Ampadu comes back into midfield, replacing Sean Longstaff, while Ao Tanaka has kept his place. Anton Stach is also back in the starting-XI, with Farke seeming to opt for a midfield trio unless Stach operates in an inside-wide role.

Further forward, Daniel James replaces summer signing Wilson while Lukas Nmecha keeps his place upfront after scoring the winner against Sunderland. Encouragingly, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns to the matchday squad, as does Brenden Aaronson, with a first pre-season appearance for either having to come off the bench.

Leeds will fly back to the UK following tonight’s game, with the best part of a week to prepare for their next friendly against RB Leipzig at Elland Road on Saturday next week. Farke’s side then face Manchester United in Dublin on Wednesday August 12 before welcoming FC Augsburg to LS11 the following Saturday.
