Leeds house music dayclub sells out second birthday bash in seven days as early-evening clubbing booms

Founded by Leeds DJ Curtis Zack, The 5 O’Clock Club has sold out its second birthday show with house legend Dave Lee in just seven days as demand for earlier nights out soars

A Leeds-born house music dayclub has proved that the city's appetite for nightlife is as strong as ever—selling out its second birthday show in just seven days.

The 5 O’Clock Club, founded by local DJ and promoter Curtis Zack, has built a massive following by offering a full-throttle clubbing environment with an earlier schedule, running from 5pm to 11pm.

The sold-out birthday event on September 26 at Merkur Casino Leeds in Victoria Gate will be headlined by house and disco royalty Dave Lee.

The rapid sell-out comes as UK nightlife data highlights a major shift in social habits, with night-goers increasingly choosing experience-led, early-evening events over late-night venues.

According to data from the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) and NIQ published earlier this year, experience-led venues grew by 24.5 per cent year-on-year, even as traditional late-night venues faced industry headwinds.

Curtis, founder of The 5 O’Clock Club, said: "That is exactly what we are seeing in Leeds. People still want to go out, but they are more selective. They want strong music, a proper atmosphere and an event that feels worth leaving the house for. We are now selling out every event, and our birthday event sold out in just seven days.

"The early finish is only part of the appeal. We have never wanted this to feel like a watered-down version of clubbing. The point is to give people the underground DJs, sound, production and energy they would expect from a serious house night - just at a time that works for more people."

Since launching in 2024, the club has established a reputation for pairing credible underground line-ups with its early-evening format, previously hosting international heavyweights such as Grant Nelson, John Morales, Victor Simonelli, and the Music House Gospel Choir.

Headlining the second anniversary event, Dave Lee brings over three decades of production and DJ credentials to Victoria Gate, boasting underground acclaim alongside chart-topping UK hits like ‘American Dream’ under his Jakatta moniker.

With tickets for the birthday event fully snapped up within a week of release, organisers have now opened an official waiting list for remaining tickets.

Fan waiting lists and resale returns are available online via Skiddle.
